Robert Douglas (Doug) Watson, age 59 of Huntsville, Missouri, formerly of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the University Of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, with his family by his side.
Doug was born in Carrollton, Missouri on August 3, 1957, the son of Robert Otto and Thelma June (Mayden) Watson. He was raised in Carrollton, where he attended grade school and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1975. Doug proudly served in the United States Navy. After his Military service, he attended Columbia College for five years, where he studied Criminal Justice. Doug worked in Law Enforcement for many years, and enjoyed numerous other employment, such as: owning a gunsmith business, working as a Quality Control Supervisor for Orscheln in Salisbury, Missouri, and Brunswick Distributing,in Brunswick, Missouri. He especially loved hunting ducks and geese with his family, bowling, and shooting pool. Doug had an extensive gun collection.
He had been a Huntsville City Council member, and a past member of the following: Huntsville Masonic Lodge #30, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2669, National Rifle Association, and the VFW Post # 2654 in Moberly, Missouri.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sharon Watson, Huntsville, Missouri; two sons, Justin Robert Watson and wife April, of Denver, Colorado, and Ryan Douglas Watson, of Denver, Colorado; one step-daughter, Holly Lindsey and husband Jeremiah, of Boonville, Missouri; and one stepson, Michael Castelman, of Denver, Colorado; his father, Bob Watson, of Renick, Missouri; one sister, Donna Skiles and husband Dave, of Jefferson, City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Tesla Watson, Roewan Watson and Thielan Watson; three nieces, Lyndsey Logan, Andrea Sumpter and Allison Sumpter several aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma J. Watson; grandparents, Otto and Augusta Watson and Joe and Emma Mayden; and mother-in-law Sharon Jackson.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Missouri, conducted by Reverend Gary Bailey. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
